Born in 1949 in Jamaica, Eleanor Alberga trained as pianist and singer at the Royal Academy of Music, London, before spending three years performing with an African dance company. She has sung with internationally celebrated Jamaican folk singers, and is a professional pianist. She began to compose when working with London Contemporary Dance Theatre; this led to a wide range of concert music encompassing, besides electronic scores, works for orchestra, choral and chamber ensembles, and pieces for solo instruments.
