Gramophone Editor's Choice for Richard Ayres: NONcertos
18 May 2010

Gramophone Magazine's editor James Inverne has picked Richard Ayres NONcertos as "one of this month's outstanding new discs".

James Inverne writes..

'What exactly is a NONcerto? Well, on this evidence, it's like a concerto but, well, not. Which is to say that composer Richard Ayres takes the concerto as his starting point for, repectively, trumpet and horn and then allows himself free rein to wander where the spirit takes him. Since he writes such compelling music, it's a fascinating disc.'
