New Music 20x12 weekend at Southbank Centre, 13-15 July
The New Music 20x12 Weekend Celebration at Southbank Centre presents 20 new compositions which encompass a range of genres and composers – from jazz to folk, brass bands to contemporary classical.
These commissions are all inspired by the dynamism of sport – the passion of human endeavour and the once in a lifetime opportunity of creating a musical work contributing to a global celebration.
Although many of the commissions will have been premiered across different UK venues, this is the first and only time when all 20 pieces can be encountered in one place over one packed weekend. Bringing to vibrant life the art of composing in the 21st century, the weekend also includes workshops, one-to-one composer surgeries, talks and related events.
New Music 20x12 is a UK-wide commissioning programme initiated by Jillian Barker and David Cohen, and delivered by PRS for Music Foundation in partnership with Southbank Centre, BBC Radio 3 and NMC Recordings.
