NEXT WAVE: STUDENT COMPOSER FEEDBACK

Next Wave Session'It’s been such an incredible opportunity so I am very grateful to Sound and Music and NMC; they’ve been brilliant – really supportive all the way through.'

'To have exposure and support with the Huddersfield festival is certainly beneficial to further the career of the composers here.'

'Overall, it has been a really great programme. I have gotten to meet my contemporary composers who are starting out at about the same sort of position I am in. Quite often it can be quite isolating, so it’s been really good meeting other young composers and talking to them.'

'It’s been an excellent opportunity and having a mentor throughout the whole process has really helped me get to grips with having to produce proper parts, particularly for recording – things need to be really clear to run smoothly.'

Ben Gaunt'It’s essential. I think nowadays so, so many composers are out there; so many very, very good composers out there my age; and it’s really hard to get experience with professional musicians.'

'You can be working away for decades and have very little contact with the best of the best, so for Sound and Music and NMC to come in and give 12 very lucky composers this opportunity is amazing.'

'This is the best opportunity I have had as a composer, without a doubt.'

Next Wave Session

'It’s been brilliant and David [Horne] has been fantastic. It’s been a wonderful opportunity and I have got so much out of it and it was really well conceived.'

'I learned a lot from my mentor Richard [Baker] and working with big ensembles especially is an amazing experience. For young composers it really is a wonderful experience.'
