Young Composers

Working with a number of partners, NMC has been at the heart of schemes dedicated to identifying and supporting young composing talent.  These projects offer young composers the chance to meet peers, to forge networks with performers and organisations across the music sector and to work with leading composer mentors.  Participants benefit from professional development opportunities and highly value having a professional recording released digitally, internationally, on NMC.

Philharmonia Composers' Academy

The Philharmonia Composers' Academy, in partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Society, annually gives 3 young composers the chance to work with expert senior composer mentors and a chamber ensemble of musicians from the Philharmonia on new works.  These are premiered at London's Southbank Centre as part of the Philharmonia's Music of Today series and the resulting recordings are released digitally to worldwide audiences on NMC.

National Youth Choir of Great Britain NMC Reordings

NYCGB Young Composers

Launched in 2018 as a partnership between NMC and the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, this annual scheme sees three composers work for a year with the various Choirs of NYCGB, Artistic Director & Principal Conductor Ben Parry and a range of composer mentors.  It aims to challenge perceptions of choral music through support in development, innovation and diversity. Running across a whole year, the scheme comprises residential courses, workshops, peer and professional mentoring and performance showcases, including a high-profile launch event at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and a digital release on NMC.    It is also significant for the experience it affords young singers of working with living composers and it will have a  lasting legacy in expanding the repertoire of choral music.
