A completely unique concept, Club Inégales is based at Euston London where Peter Wiegold has directed some 80 performances since 2011. The resident band is Notes Inégales and each evening they play, followed by a guest, and then they play together.
Guests have included, free improviser Evan Parker, leading jazz musicians, guitar Lionel Loueke and trumpet Byron Wallen, folk singer Chris Wood, Scottish folk fiddler Aidan O’Rourke, early musicians Paula Chateauneuf and Pavlo Beznosiuk, countertenor Iestyn Morris, poet Benjamin Zephaniah, writer Will Self, comedian John Hegley, kanun player Maya Youssef, Korean musicians Gamin and Hyelim Kim, Gambian kora Sura Susso and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Looking for new inégales approaches to music of all kinds, in June 2016 Club Inégales put on sold-out performances of Purcell’s King Arthur at the Spitalfields Festival in London with a multicultural ensemble. In the last couple of years, recent partners have included Serious/The London Jazz Festival, Spitalfields Festival, Sound and Music, BASCA, the South Bank Centre and the Almeida Theatre. In November 2015 the band toured Switzerland with drummer Christophe Fellay.
The Club Inégales label draws from these cross-genre, cross-discipline collaborations, releasing highlights of the work of the resident band Notes Inégales with various partners. The music is directed by composer Peter Wiegold, and the co-director of the label is composer Martin Butler.
Since 2018, Club Inégales Label has been exclusively distributed by NMC Recordings.
