David Powell has explored several musical genres in his long career as a tuba player. He has played with all of the London orchestras in concerts, tours and recordings and played much contemporary music with the London Sinfonietta and other ensembles. In the field of jazz, David was a founder-member of Loose Tubes and also played with big bands led by Mike Westbrook, John Dankworth and Billy Cobham: as well as running his own 8-piece entitled Kermesse. His compositions and arrangements for brass have been recorded and published by Superbrass, among others. As Organist and Director of Music at the Parish Church of St. Mary Newington, David runs a yearly youth summer school and he has brought all his experience into many other education and community music projects with people of all ages and abilities.
