Blasio Kavuma

Blasio Kavuma is a composer, arranger and curator based in London. He is an active collaborator over numerous platforms, including theatre, opera, film, visual art and dance. His work has been performed by ensembles and soloists in the U.K, U.S and Japan, and his music has featured on BBC Radio 3. His music has been published by label Nonclassical. Drawing equally from classical and Afro-diasporic musical traditions, he has developed a sound-world full of rhythmic vitality and stylistic versatility, and is committed to championing forward-thinking music that is accessible to a diverse audience. In 2019 Blasio received the George Butterworth prize for composition for SPIRIT LEVEL — a dance collaboration with choreographer Si Rawlinson — as part of Sound and Music’s Pathways programme. In 2020 Blasio joined new music label and events organisation Nonclassical as an associate composer, receiving mentorship with Gabriel Prokofiev. He has previously been commissioned by CoMA ensemble, City of London Festival Fretwork ensemble and Southbank Sinfonia. He has collaborated with director Dawn Walton on 5 songs for a 2021 production of Antigone at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester. His arrangement has appeared on Marcus Joseph’s Beyond the Dome album and his work has been aired on BBC Radio 3 and Italy’s Battiti Radio 3. Blasio is currently working on commissions from Listenpony and National Open Youth Orchestra. He is currently involved with the new opera Gods of the Game, a football-based opera commissioned by Sky Arts.
