Liz Liew

Liz Chi Yen Liew is a multi-instrumentalist and composer whose music is inspired by her roots using Chinese instruments with electric violins and piano. As one half of violin duo Chi2 she performed and co-wrote Monkey King – A Modern Beijing Opera which toured in the UK in 2008-9. Other commissions include co-writing the soundtracks to Time is Like Water Flowing (Greenwich and Docklands International Festival) with French aerial acrobatic group Les Passagers at London’s O2 Arena and Song of the Fisherman at Royal Opera House (Linbury Theatre). As one of PRS for Music Foundation’s selected composers for New Music 20×12 (2012 Cultural Olympiad) her piece XX/XY premiered to 12,000 people at Trafalgar Square, was featured on BBC2’s Review Show and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Her live music and dance piece Snapshots previewed at The Place in London (Resolution!), with the album released on Stella Polaris Recordings.

Other writing credits include Learn on Lamb‘s album Between Darkness and Wonder, Birthday Girl (Channel 4), Chinese in Britain (BBC Radio 4) and short films Where Are They From?,  Belonging and theatre show Forgotten.

As a musician she has toured/recorded/performed with Moby, Lamb, Gnarls Barkley, Asian Dub Foundation, Goldfrapp, Jerry Dammers Spatial AKA Orchestra amongst others.
