Ryan Latimer: a guide to the Mills Mess

Ryan Latimer shows us how to perform the 'Mills Mess' (in 4 useless steps)

Ryan's piece, Mills Mess (commissioned in 2015 by the Royal Academy of Music's Manson Ensemble conducted by Oliver Knussen) takes it's title from a popular juggling pattern, developed by Steve Mills in the 1970s.

As a juggler himself, the composer was keen to underline the physical prowess involved in the process, not just the eye-catching illusion, and reflect it in the music.

Here’s how you too can play along using just the contents of your fridge!

Ryan Latimer's Antiarkie is available to buy from the NMC shop now.

Antiarkie is the latest in our Debut Discs series. NMC’s Debut Discs are crucial calling cards, invaluable for showcasing composers to a wider public, giving them the opportunity to present a first full portrait album of their work. Debut Discs has to date supported 20 releases.
