The Ivors Classical Awards ceremony took place last night, celebrating the very best new music by British, Irish or UK resident composers. We are so proud that multiple NMC composers were nominated in almost every category, with three winning awards – NMC really is the place to come to keep your fingers on the pulse of the best new music! Ben Nobuto: 'Sol'

BEST CHORAL COMPOSITION WINNER

Ben composed his work Sol as part of our annual partnership with the National Youth Choir.

The work is inspired by ancient sun gods, musing on the choir as an ecology, where multiple things happen simultaneously that are at once distinct, yet symbiotic.

OUTSTANDING WORKS COLLECTION WINNER

This prestigious award honours British or Irish composers who have written a consistently exceptional body of classical compositions.

NMC are immensely proud to have much of Tansy's music in the NMC catalogue, including two full albums: spine (2012) and Nature (2021).

Hannah Kendall: 'Shouting Forever into the Receiver'

BEST LARGE ENSEMBLE COMPOSITION WINNER

Hannah's work Spark Catchers  is the title track on the acclaimed album we released by Chineke! Orchestra in 2020. She also features on 2019's Many Voices: 10 New Pieces for Violin.

BEST COMMUNITY AND PARTICIPATION COMPOSITION WINNER

We released Dobrinka's piece PULSE  in 2014 as part of our partnership with New Music Biennial.

Brian Irvine: 'Least Like the Other - Searching for Rosemary Kennedy'

BEST STAGE WORK WINNER

Brian Irvine's collaboration with Jennifer Walshe 13 Vices  was a New Music Biennial track in 2017.

There were also a huge number of NMC composers nominated, including: 

Luke Bedford (Best Chamber Ensemble Composition) – Luke’s new album In the Voices of the Living  is released on 24 November

Emily Howard (Best Orchestral Composition) – Emily’s debut album Magnetite  was released by NMC in 2016, this year we released her latest album Torus  to critical acclaim

Philip Venables (Best Small Chamber Composition) – NMC released Philip's debut album Below the Belt  in 2018

Larry Goves (Best Small Chamber Composition) – NMC released Larry's debut album Just Stuff People Do  in 2014

Tom Coult (Best Stage Work) – Tom's works feature on Many Voices: Ensemble  and Psappha Commissions, with more coming soon

Alex Paxton (Best Large Ensemble Composition) – Alex released his debut album Music For Bosch People  on BRC in 2021, and he also features on two NMC compilation releases; Philharmonia Composers’ Academy Vol. 5 and Six Degrees of Separation

Angela Slater (Best Large Ensemble Composition) – Angela was one of 20 brilliant composers to feature on the recent Sounds New  release celebrating 100 years of the CBSO 

Naomi Pinnock (Best Choral Composition) – Naomi's music features on Sound Census  and Coma Open Score

Matthew Herbert (Best Community and Participation Composition) – we released Matthew Herbert's work 20 Pianos in 2014

• Crewdson and Cevanne (Best Sound Art) – Cevanne's solo album Welcome Party  was release by NMC in 2021
