Emma-Kate Matthews

Emma-Kate is an architect, composer, musician and researcher at UCL. Her research is concerned with the discovery and exploitation of creative reciprocities between music; as constructed sound, and architecture; as constructed space. Emma-Kate’s site-specific and spatialised compositions have been performed at acoustically distinctive sites such as the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, London’s Southbank Centre and LSO St Luke's. Emma-Kate is also a multi-instrumentalist and she has released a number of solo albums including ‘Far Flung’ on Algebra records in 2020. She has previously completed commissions for Musicity and the Barbican Centre as part of the ‘Sound Unbound’ festival and she was appointed as a Panufnik composer for the London Symphony Orchestra in 2020. Her Architectural work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and the RIBA and her writing has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals including Architectural Design (Wiley) and Organised Sound (Cambridge University Press).
