NMC Guest Playlist #1: Angellica Bell

Playlists NMC Recordings

To celebrate the launch of NMC’s new website, Scala Radio’s Angellica Bell has pulled together a taster of some of the music she plays on her Saturday morning show for our first-ever Guest Playlist.

It's been a real honour to be part of the inception of Scala Radio and see it grow as a station, and I'm delighted to have been asked to curate a playlist for NMC Recordings that showcases some of the amazing music I play on my show every Saturday morning from 7am-10am.

What sets Scala apart is the eclectic mix of music that sits alongside the traditional classical tracks, catering for everyone. Whether that be showcasing new music from Richard Bundy or Howard Skempton, or playing tracks that have a message behind them - like Ekki Hugsa from Olafur Arnalds or Elegy (In Memorium Stephen Lawrence) by Philip Herbert. I'm a big fan of emotive film and TV theme tunes including the piece I've selected from one of my favourite films, Gladiator and Thirteen from Doctor Who composed by Scala guest presenter Segun Akinola.

Having been in a choir myself, each Saturday I celebrate the joys of singing with a 'Choral Moment', playing tracks such as the beautiful Sing to the Moon by Laura Mvula sung by the Chapel Choir of Pembroke College, Ēriks Ešenvalds’ O Salutaris Hostia and Eric Whitacre’s Sleep

I love it when we play music that has been given Scala magic touch - when popular goes classical - so I'm certain you will adore Sheku Kanneh-Mason’s stunning rendition of No Woman, No Cry and The Piano Guys’ The Mission / How Great Thou Art.

With this list I've tried to give you a flavour of the pieces I can listen to over and over again, and give you the chance to relax! These are some of my favourites which include Chloe Flower's Flower Through Concrete and The End by The 1975. In fact, I love all of them so make sure you listen to the end!

You can listen to Scala Radio on digital radio across the UK, on smart speaker, online or on the Scala Radio app. Find out more at scalaradio.co.uk
